How Scan & Pay works

At checkout the merchant shows a QR code — either from the SoPoints POS terminal for a specific amount, or a reusable code taped by the till. The customer scans it with their phone camera.

If they have the SoPoints app, it opens straight to the payment. If they don’t, the code opens a page that shows the merchant and the amount and points them to the free app — it never asks for card details on the web.

One transaction, points included

Pay by card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay — processed securely by Stripe.
Loyalty points are earned automatically on the same payment, with no separate scan.
Dynamic codes carry the exact amount from the POS terminal; static codes let the customer enter it.
Charge codes are short-lived, so an old screenshot of a code can’t be reused.
Payouts settle to the merchant’s own Stripe account.

What is Scan & Pay?

Scan & Pay lets a customer pay a SoPoints merchant by scanning a QR code with their phone. The merchant shows a code at checkout, the customer scans it, and the payment goes through in the SoPoints app — earning loyalty points on the same transaction.

How do customers pay?

Payment happens inside the SoPoints app, processed securely by Stripe. Customers can pay by card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. The web page a QR opens never asks for card details — it only confirms the merchant and hands the payment to the app.

Do customers earn points when they pay?

Yes. Paying through Scan & Pay earns loyalty points automatically on the same transaction, so there is no separate step to scan a loyalty code afterwards.

What's the difference between a static and a dynamic QR code?

A static code is the merchant’s reusable code — the customer enters the amount in the app. A dynamic code is generated by a POS terminal for a specific charge, so the amount is fixed and the code expires after a short window for security.

What does a merchant need to accept Scan & Pay?

A merchant completes Stripe onboarding so payouts land in their own account, and has Scan & Pay enabled on their plan. Until both are done, customers who scan a code are told the merchant isn’t taking QR payments yet — they can still pay as usual and earn points.

Is Scan & Pay secure?

Yes. Payments are processed by Stripe (PCI-DSS SAQ A), card details are never entered on the web, and dynamic charge codes are short-lived so a screenshot of an old code cannot be reused.
